San Jose is the third-largest city in the US state of California.  The city is also known as ‘The Safest Big City in America’. With over 300 days of sunshine every year, San Jose is constantly abuzz with activity. The most famous landmark in San Jose is the Winchester Mystery House. San Jose has a total area of 461.5 square km.

In the very beginning San Jose was served as a farming community and also responsible for supporting the Spanish military installations at San Francisco and Monterey. This also led to increased demand  for housing from soldiers and other veterans returning from World War II. Today, San Jose is known as the "Capitol of Silicon Valley” because of the large concentration of high-technology engineering, computer, and microprocessor companies.

San Jose was founded on November 29, 1777 and is located at 37°18′15″N, 121°52′22″W. San Jose ranks tenth in the United States. San Jose is situated in Silicon Valley, at the south end of the San Francisco Bay. In 1922, brothers Stephano and Andrea D'Arrigo in San Jose started the first commercial farming of broccoli in the United States. In 1943, IBM founded their west coast headquarters in San Jose.

The population of San Jose and Silicon Valley continued to grow rapidly with the boom of the electronics industry. The headquarters of many Fortune 500 companies are located in San Jose. The San Jose metro area is home to more than 7,835 high-tech companies. The San Jose is a good place for shopping and food.

Several colleges and universities are located within the city. Most well known university San José State University is located in downtown San Jose since 1870. The city also has various private and public schools. Public education is provided by four high school districts, fourteen elementary districts, and four unified school districts in the city. Private schools in San Jose are primarily run by religious groups.

Due to the proximity to the San Francisco bay, the city has a mediterranean climate. The city enjoys an annual rainfall of only 14.4 inches as it lies more inland, protected on three sides by mountains. The average lowest temperature in January is 42o F. The average high temperature in the month of July is 84o F. With the light rainfall, the city enjoys over 300 days sunshine. The rainfall normally occurs in the months from October through April or May.

The City of San José operates under the Council/Manager form of government with a city manager nominated by the mayor and elected by the city council. The City Council is comprised of the Mayor, who is elected by the community at-large, and ten council members who are elected by districts. The City Manager is responsible for administration of City affairs, day-to-day operations, and implementation of Council policies.

The city is a home to the headquarters of Adobe Systems, BEA Systems, Cisco, and eBay. Whether you're new in town or just here for a weekend,San Jose can satisfy almost any pleasure you desire. San Jose provides you vast collection of  restaurants and hotels. The city is also a home to over a dozen beautiful golf courses.

The cost of living in San Jose is considered as highest in California and the nation. Public art is an evolving attraction in the city. The city is home to many performance arts that includes Opera San Jose, Symphony Silicon Valley, Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley, Children's Musical Theater of San Jose, the San Jose Repertory Theatre, and American Musical Theatre of San Jose.

The city is also a home to various professional sports teams. San Jose also hosts several sporting events. In addition to several federal and state highways, US 101, CA-85, CA-87, CA-17, and CA-237, the San Jose also has a well-developed three Interstate highways—I-280, I-880, and I-680.
